Homeschool Test Track

Frequently asked Questions

We know you have questions before you commit to anything, and you should. Here are the answers to the most common things homeschool parents ask about Homeschool Test Track, how it works, what it costs, and how it compares to the other options out there.

What is Homeschool Test Track?

Homeschool Test Track is an online assessment platform built specifically for homeschool families. Your child takes a test in Math, Science, Language Arts, or Social Studies, and you get a detailed breakdown of their performance by specific topic, compared to the national average, with results delivered instantly to your parent dashboard. One account covers up to 6 kids for a full year at $145.

What grades and subjects does Homeschool Test Track cover?

Grades 1 through 6. Four core subjects: Math, Science, Language Arts, and Social Studies. Each subject is broken into specific topics so you see more than just one score per subject.

How is this different from the Iowa test, Stanford 10, or CAT?

Traditional standardized tests give you broad subject scores like “Math: 72nd percentile.” Homeschool Test Track breaks each subject into specific topics (algebra, geometry, measurement, data analysis, etc.) and shows you how your child performed in each one compared to the national average. You also get unlimited retakes, instant results, and family pricing instead of paying per student per test. For a detailed comparison, see our post on homeschool testing options compared.

How much does it cost?

$145 for a full year. That covers up to 6 students, all four subjects, and unlimited test attempts. There are no per-student fees, no per-test charges, and no automatic renewal. You choose when to renew.

How does that compare to other testing options?

The Iowa test costs $60 to $85 per student per test through BJU Press. The Stanford 10 is similar. The CAT runs $25 to $40 per student. MAP Growth through Homeschool Boss is $50 to $75+ per student per testing window. For a family of three kids, a single round of Iowa testing can cost over $200 with no retakes, no topic-level scoring, and results that take a week. Homeschool Test Track covers the whole family for $145 with unlimited retakes and instant results.

What do I actually see in my dashboard?

For each child, you see scores broken out by specific topic within each subject, each one compared to the national average. Your dashboard automatically sorts every topic into two lists: Strengths (above the benchmark) and Learning Gaps (below the benchmark). Each entry shows the exact score and the distance from the national average. You do not need to interpret percentiles or stanines. The information is clear the moment you look at it.

What does “topic-level scoring” mean?

Instead of getting one number for “Math,” you see separate scores for algebra, geometry, measurement, and data analysis. Instead of one number for “Science,” you see life science, earth science, and physical science. This tells you exactly which areas your child has mastered and which ones need work, something a broad subject score cannot do.

How are the scores benchmarked?

Your child’s results are compared against published national research data for their grade level. Every topic score is shown alongside the national average so you can see whether a weakness is slight or significant.

Can my child retake the tests?

Yes, as many times as you want. Unlimited retakes are included in your membership. Every attempt is saved in your dashboard so you can track how each topic score changes over time. Test in the fall, adjust your teaching, test again in the winter, and see whether the gaps are closing.

How long does each test take?

Tests are untimed. Your child works at their own pace. Most students finish a single subject assessment in 20 to 40 minutes depending on grade level, but there is no clock and no penalty for taking longer.

When can my child take the test?

Any time. There are no testing windows, no scheduling, and no seasonal restrictions. Your child logs into their student account whenever you are ready and takes the assessment. Results appear in your parent dashboard immediately.

Can I control whether my child sees their scores?

Yes. Your parent dashboard gives you full visibility into all results. You decide when and whether to share scores with your child. If your child benefits from seeing their progress, share it. If seeing numbers would cause stress, keep it in your dashboard and use the data behind the scenes.

Can I test multiple children on one account?

Yes. One membership covers up to 6 students. Each child gets their own secure login. You see all of their results from a single parent dashboard without juggling separate accounts.

Is Homeschool Test Track a placement test?

Not exactly. A placement test tells you where to start in a specific curriculum. Homeschool Test Track is a diagnostic assessment that tells you what your child knows and does not know across four core subjects, broken down by topic, compared to national benchmarks. It answers a deeper question than “which level of Saxon to start with.” It answers “where is my child strong and where do they have gaps?” For more on this distinction, see our post on homeschool placement tests.

Will this satisfy my state’s testing requirements?

Homeschool Test Track provides nationally benchmarked assessment data across four core subjects for Grades 1 through 6. Whether it satisfies your specific state’s compliance requirements depends on your state’s rules. Some states accept any nationally normed assessment. Others maintain specific approved test lists. Check with your state’s homeschool association or HSLDA’s legal page to confirm what is accepted where you live.

How do I get started?

Go to the signup page, create your parent account, add your children, and they can start testing the same day. The whole setup takes about five minutes.
